What’s the one thing that, as fans of the sport we all want to see? The answer is good racing, right? I know there were a few loose boys in the back who shouted “Boobs!,” but that’s just a given. So, if good racing is the endgame, why are people getting so damn upset when we actually get it? The 2022 supercross series saw some crashes with Jason Anderson and Malcolm Stewart [those two have found each other a few times this year], then Anderson and Roczen… actually, Anderson has been a part of quite a few “incidents” this season. Barcia has taken his shots, as per usual, as has Friese, and Musquin had a run-in with Stewart that led to both of them going down. One thing you can definitely say about 2022 is that there has been some great racing!

So, explain to me why every fan who has been hoping for good racing all of a sudden seem so offended by good racing? I’ve never seen so many people call for rider suspensions, black flags, disqualifications, fines and even death by firing squad [the Vital Forum, probably] for riders bringing some intensity and passion to work. Or, as Jason Anderson explains it, for “just trying.”

The softies out there will say, “I want good racing but this is dangerous and somebody is going to get hurt!” Oh, my heaven… not an injury in supercross! Listen, cupcake, motocross is a contact sport. Take a quick second and consider how pro hockey handles players who want to be aggressive; they let them literally fight it out right there on the ice. Teeth and blood are flying, jerseys being pulled over their heads, and still they swing until one of them hits the ice, then they break it up and give them a two-minute “time out” in the penalty box. Two minutes of sitting out the game for beating another player senseless! Juxtapose that with the Karens in our sport who want to see rider’s pro cards pulled for racing for position. Honestly, it’s starting to get embarrassing. And if you don’t like the hockey analogy, go back and watch some of the best eras of racing in our sport. How many times did RC, Reed, Stewart, and Pastrana smash into each other? What about Hannah, RJ, Barnett, Weinert, etc? The fact is, guys who want to win won’t hesitate to make contact if it improves their position.

What IS dirty riding? Dirty riding is a t-bone into a corner with no intention of turning [and the Barcia and Mookie hit in Salt Lake was NOT a t-bone]. Dirty is grabbing a handful of throttle when you run a guy over, or when a Monster girl cheats on her racer fiancé with another rider. But when two guys go down while battling for position, that’s called a great night for the fans. Now, maybe your favorite rider got the short end of the stick that night and you’re pissed. Count to ten, take a couple Midol, and find your safe space. The rest of us with a set of hairy boys between our legs [That means we are men, in case you have gender confusion] are going to raise our glasses to the warriors who go out there every Saturday and leave it all on the track. Cheers, boys!

2022 SX AND MX has been outstanding all year! Yes I wish guys weren’t hurt, and they had more time during the season to recover, but all in all this sport still kicks booty all day, every day!

Big Bird and The Chicken. Or, Mike LaRocco 93-95. These Sallies today would have their heads collectively implode if they were forced to watch either of these examples of “When men were men.” And if I’m being honest? I’m kinda here for it….

We’ve all been hurt, right? I don’t mean by some snotty blonde in middle school when we were hormonal and fragile… I’m talking about getting spit off your dirt bike and the sudden stop that follows. It’s one of those things that binds all motocross and off-road riders and racers; we can all relate.

Professional racing here in the USA is on the cusp of major transformation. With the advent of the World Supercross Series and the return of the AMA Arenacross series, there are finally some options for racers to consider. While the AMA Supercross series and MX Sports national motocross championship are the standard for what a full season of racing looks like, typically, that could be changing.

Hell of a racing season we had in 2022, wasn’t it? A recharged Eli Tomac under the Star Racing/Yamaha tent made for some incredible racing, even though ET would eventually win both the supercross and motocross titles in 2022.

Dealing With Disappointment

We hear a lot about young riders trying to “make it” in the sport of motocross. I was one of those kids. But what does Making it” really mean?

Politics has become quite the landmine in the last four or five years, hasn’t it? I mean, I’ve always been told to avoid discussing politics or religion in mixed company, but that never sat right with me.

Technology is awesome… until it isn’t. If you’re wealthy enough you can literally have a rocket built, shaped like your own genitals if you wish [looking at you Bezos], and go into outer space. Even if you’re not wealthy, the government will give you an iPhone for free, which wields more computing power than they had when NASA landed a man on the moon.
